Summary | | | |
Built in 1882 and originally called "Vinland" in romantic reference to legendary Vikings who may have first come ashore near here, this seaside estate was the summer home of tobacco heiress Catherine Lorillard Wolfe. In 1955, the building's most recent owner, Florence Twombley Burden, donated the estate to Salve Regina College. It was renamed in memory of the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley. |
